English

Harvest International School is an international school offering the Macmillan and Cambridge curriculum subjects in English. This includes Macmillan English, Math and Science and Cambridge “Checkpoint” English, Math, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy.
This year we have also implemented a new “Speaking program” where our goal is to encourage and support our students in acquiring the spoken part of the English language. In Libya there is a lack of input and output when it comes to using the English language outside of school and we at Harvest International want to give our students the best English education possible.

Collaboration with ACER

To ensure that our students are progressing, we at Harvest International School are collaborating with ACER- Australian Council for Educational Research, by giving the student the opportunity to take the ISA- International School Assessment. ISA is similar to PISA (not part of PISA) and they assess complex higher-order thinking skills in Reading, Mathematical and scientific Literacy.

English in primary,
grades 1-6 (6-11 years).

At the Harvest International School, our primary school curriculum, Macmillan English, engages and motivates each child, encouraging a lifelong love of learning. Through educational games, projects and themes, our exceptional teachers expand our students’ knowledge of English.

This curriculum will develop our students’ core literacy and it will  encourage them to collaborate, ask questions, and learn independently. Throughout their primary education, your child will consider topics from multiple perspectives, enjoy hands-on projects, and educational games.

This makes learning fun, while building a strong academic foundation that allows them to excel.

English in secondary,
grades 7-9 (12-14 years).

Harvest International School Lower secondary curriculum is from Cambridge “Checkpoint”. This curriculum is a strong Britsh curriculum that broadens our students’ knowledge of the English language, as well as encourages them to become great writers, readers and debaters. They will learn to work independently, think creatively and state their own opinions. It will prepare them for their next step in life and inspire them to be their own unique individual.

English curricula
activities

We at Harvest International School put pride in the variety of activities we offer along with our curriculum.

Weekly Themes

We have weekly themes, for example: Fire prevention week, Bullying week, Childrens’ day, book fair etc., where the English teacher, together with their students, does activities or projects according to the theme of the week. In our English curriculum we have our annual “Spelling Bee” competition and our assemblies.

Spelling Bee Competition

The “Spelling Bee” competition encourages all students, grades 1-8,  to showcase their spelling abilities. The students will have the opportunity to memorize the words beforehand and during the competition they are asked to spell words connected to our curriculum with a varying degree of difficulty.

Assemblies

Our English teachers are also responsible for our annual assemblies. The teacher will choose a, or compose her own, play for the students to perform in front of their parents. During the school year they will memorize and practice the play. All students will be present in the play and perform according to their own level and ability.
